The International Bird protection convention was signed on April 1st, 1906. On this day people all over the world are encouraged to introduse to the vanishing birds and put up nesting-boxes.
In 1922 the nature and especially birds protection promoter in Lithuania professor Tadas Ivanauskas started organizing birds guardenship actions.During the feast cognitive trips to nature were organized, nesting-boxes and stork-nests were put up, lectures about birds and all nature were given, hikes, carnivals and processions were arranged.School children,. young farmers and the members of the association to adorn Lithuania took active part in those actions.
Nowadays this feast is often celebrated at the end of March. Lithuanian ornithology society organizes Birds’ days on the last decade of March every year.During these days all who are interested in birds can watch them, get more information about their life and put up nesting boxes.
On March 28th, the members of nature research club “Eureka” hammered 25 nesting-boxes for forest birds in Marcinkonys folk trade premises .The roofs of the hammered nesting-boxes are easy to open ,so it is practical to clean them .Also, such nesting- boxes could be used for a long time. Moreover, it is very convenient to ring birds in them. Dzukija national park woodworkers prepared blanks for the nesting boxes from the planks which were given by joint stock company “Alma” owner Mr.Dainius Kiela. After work students watched the film”The Land of Eagles” which was directed by Eugenijus Drobelis and Jonas Bilinskas.

At the same time schoolgirs guided by art teacher Lina Čenienė shaped various birds and Baltic signs from herb, straw and hey.” From ancient times we inherited unique ornaments which beautify cloth, nittings, woodwork and architecture. What are these signs and what are their they meanings? Some of their ornamentic parts had magic ones. They protected from evel spirits ,for instance one could often find the symbol of a grass-snake.Mythologists named this broken form sign after Grass Snake or the Moon. The personnel of Dzukija national park Lina Černiauskienė the head of Marcinkonys visitors centre,Dalia Blažulionytė the head of the cultural heritage division and Romas Norkūnas the handicraft master and his family members took an active part in shaping the symbols and birds. The shaped birds and Baltic symbols created by schoolchildren and professional helpers decorated Margionys barn theatre.Dr. Eugenijus Drobelis the Dzukija national park deputy director organised the birds watch in Margionys village.  Dr.Mindaugas Lapelė the head of nature heritage division told about flint and spring signs. All the feast participants tasted the soup cooked on the fire by Jonas Bajoriūnas the head of Marcinkonys etnographic museum. At the end of the feast the Margionys village folk group sang about the Earth, birds and nature awakening .The folk songs sung by two Varėna Ąžuolas students Ugnė Černiauskaitė and Žydrūnė Mortūnaitė piked everybody up.
